Yes! A Special Use Permit is required for weddings or elopements at the Painted Hills. The application process is simple, and it’s so worth it for the chance to celebrate your day in such a unique spot.
Weddings or ceremonies may be scheduled up to one year in advance and no later than 21 days prior to your event.
The Painted Hills shine from late spring to early fall, with May to September offering the best weather and light for photos. The summer sunsets? Absolutely unreal.
Located about 9 miles northwest of Mitchell, Oregon, the Painted Hills are accessible by car. It’s around a 2-hour drive from Bend, making it a great addition to a Central Oregon adventure. For folks visiting from out-of-state, we recommend flying into Redmond Airport.
The Painted Hills have restrooms and some picnic areas, but this is a remote natural site, so plan accordingly. Bring plenty of water and snacks!
